How to… Involve young people in your event

19 April 2021
Public Event, Virtual
Join us to learn how to involve young people in your Make Music Day activities and encourage meaningful youth voice as part of your work.

About this Event

Make Music Day UK are running a series of workshops to help you to develop the skills that you need to bring music to your communities on 21 June. This workshop focuses on how to work well with young people. Specifically it focuses on the practice and principles of ‘youth voice’, and how you can meaningfully include and involve young people in Make Music Day 2021 activities and beyond.

This session will be jointly led by staff and young people from Sound Connections and NYMAZ, and the Make Music Day team will be on hand as well.

As part of this workshop you will explore:

  • What we mean by ‘youth voice’
  • What ‘youth voice’ looks like in practice
  • Where you, your group and/or organisation is already at in terms of working with young people and how to take this to the next level
  • ‘Rural Fest’ as a case study of working with young people

The team will help you to think about practical actions you can take to improve youth voice in your activities and the different ways you can involve young people in the initiation, planning, design and delivery of music events, activities and workshops. There’ll also be time to meet other people who are getting involved in Make Music Day 2021, and who work with young people.

The session will be a mixture of presentation, tips and case studies, pointers to resources and discussion about how you can apply some of these techniques in your own work.

This workshop is suitable for people with a little bit of experience of working with young people – but don’t worry, you don’t need lots of experience to take part and learn. We’d love it if you could join us – places are limited, so book now.
