About this Event
Make Music Day UK are running a series of workshops to help you to develop the skills that you need to bring music to your communities on 21 June. This workshop focuses on how to put on your own gig. It will be led by the Musicians’ Union in association with UK Music and presented by Jay Taylor.
Jay is in-house promoter at Manchester’s Night & Day music venue, works as North West co-ordinator for the Music Venue Trust, lectures at BIMM Manchester and is a member of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Night Time Economy Taskforce, he also sits on Manchester Culture Team.
As part of this workshop you will explore:
Getting started – key considerations when promoting your own show, starting in your rehearsal room and walking through the whole process.
We will cover venue choices, when and how to work with a promoter, deciding on your line up, marketing and PR, ticketing, job roles, tech questions, contracts, collection societies, health and safety factors, current industry issues and crucially how not to lose money.
There’ll also be time to talk about your ideas for Make Music Day 2021 and meet other people who are getting involved in creating the world’s largest DIY music festival.
We’d love it if you could join us!
Musicians’ Union is the UK trade union for all musicians representing around 32,000 members working right across the music industry.
