Rab Wishart writes songs that are clear, direct and affecting. He lives in Belfast but his music has journeyed with him to America, Australia and South East Asia. He was raised in the heartland of Country Down. During his time in Carryduff and Moneyreagh he was smitten by the first Matchbox Twenty album, by Pearl Jam, Counting Crows and Damien Rice. There were loud interruptions from Metallica and more gracious influences from his father’s collection of American and traditional records.
He has engaged with a music collective, Over The Hill at the Oh Yeah Music Centre. This confederation of players and singers released an album in 2014 called ‘Velvet Revolution’, including a Rab track, ‘Long Way Down’. The record launch took place during the prestigious Open House Festival.
“Sad songs are best,” Rab says with a laugh. “It’s about relationships, emotions and feelings. And it’s about making the performances bigger and better”.
