Summer Strum Ukulele Festival is back for it’s 6th year at Hoylake Rugby Club. A three day event celebrating wellbeing and inclusion through music and joining groups. Shenanigans begin on Friday evening from 6pm with jamming in the clubhouse and evening performances in the Party Tent from Splintered Ukes and Jefferson Milkfloat and on through the weekend with 3 stages featuring 60+ bands starting at 12pm Sat and Sun through to 10pm Saturday and 6pm Sunday.
The event is free to enter and is suitable for the whole family – featuring inflatable fun, craft and wellbeing areas, yoga, tai chi, artisan stalls, a wide variety of food and drink and of course the music! There are plenty of opportunities to join in jams, singalongs and strumalongs. Busking will spill out into Market Street. Workshops this year will include vocals for beginners, Harmonica for beginners and intermediate, a children’s ukulele workshop and samba drumming with more to be announced over the coming months. There is a small charge for these and you will be able to book onto the workshops in advance via facebook/website or on the day if spaces are available. Workshops take place in the fabulous Melrose Hall off Market Street.
All profits and raffle proceeds are split between two special charities close to our hearts – Wirral Mind and Wirral Hospice St Johns.
The festival is entirely led by volunteers and all bands come from near and far to perform for free and are more than worthy of a listing: Like and Orchestra, Yin Yan Band, BUG, Uke N Vox, Status Ukes, Neston Strummers, Bowie Ukes, D’ukes of Hazard, Ukulele Club Liverpool, Liverpool Music Lab, River City Ukes, Remnants, Cat People, Broken Strings, Small-town Splitters, Splintered Uses, Rusty Spoons, Saltwater, Ukranian Ukulele Band, Helen Maw, Vandelows, El D’Uke, Watching Paint Dry, Ukulele Tuesday, Ukulele Jukebox, Two Of Us, Rob Jones + Rob White, Katy Vernon, The Boy with the Greyhound Tattoo, Sebukulele, Chester Uses, Liverpool Ukulele Orchestra, Ukey 40, Midlife Crisis, Rock Choir, Grateful Fred’s Ukelear Deterrent, Cillas Back, Visionz, Wirral Ukulele Fanatics, Secret Ukulele Band, Spin Offs, Travelling Wannabes, Cool Hand Ukes, Ukes on the Wharf, Miss Stan, Ukulalas, Final Nails, Secrets Out, Mighty Aslan, Young at Heart, HUT, Sprouts, Ukes 4 U, Sydney Smith, Ukes Alive, Happy Pluckers, Parbulele 5, Piccalilli Jam, Not Just Ukes, Strummer Boys …
