We’ve joined forces with musicians, bands, creatives and educators from across the UK (and beyond!) to bring three slices of music loveliness throughout the 21 June directly into your homes. We’ll be livestreaming to YouTube and on our website at different points in the day, and best still, if you miss anything you can always watch back on ‘catch-up’ later.

11:00am / Durham Music’s Global Big Sing
As part of the Durham Big Play, Durham Music will be presenting a live streamed Big Sing on 21 June, 11.00-11.40am. Musicians will lead a virtual sing-a-long of the songs featured on the Charanga platform. Come and join thousands of children across this world through song!
11:40am / The Frisson Foundation present ‘Sign at the gate’
Scotland’s Primary Schools to join with our live broadcast by learning and signing on Make Music Day the MMD Anthem Stand By Me.
11:55am / Cap O’Rushes Inclusive Ensembles
Arts & Health South West present a film of a newly commissioned piece by Cevanne Horrocks-Hopayian written for 3 inclusive ensembles and a dancer to respond to.
12:25pm / Newham Music presents a South Asian Music Workshop
Newham Music teacher Gouri Choudhury presents a fun, interactive South Asian Music Workshop with help from the students at West Ham Church Primary school and Elmhurst Primary school. Sing along and learn the Phule phule song with us!
12:40pm / Live Music Now Presents
Live Music Now musician Ford Collier (from the group Mishra) takes viewers on a journey from Western classical through folk and jazz to beatboxing and back again, encouraging audience participation through conducting, clapping and call-and-response – all with the help of his Live Music Now musician friends!

Bringing you an eclectic offering of music, the twilight livestream jets us across the world and up-and-down the UK to bring you jazz, drum battles, ukuleles and much more.
4:00pm / International Drum Battle
With ‘passion and hope’ more than 30 drum/percussion bands from the Netherlands, Brazil, Nigeria, India, Slovenia, Lithuania, United States, UK, Mexico, etc. will join forces to contribute to the Make Music Day 2021; we will Drum Around the World in 15 minutes.

4:45pm / Solo Artist Stage
Olaide Steele: BBC Introducing selected singer-songwriter Olaide Steele performs a selection of covers and her own original songs.
Fragile Lucy: Get ready for something a bit different. Songs about the universe, love and life from one of the most original ukulele players on the planet. With her funky flamenco style, with a twist of ragtime, quirky song lyrics and an awesome voice. Always a fun filled, energetic show, from a truly talented and inspirational artist.

5:15pm / Jazz in South Wales with James Chadwick
Live performance clips from the jazz musicians from South Wales. All the clips were done under the lockdown conditions and these performances grew the membership of the group during the pandemic.

MSCTY’s Nick Luscombe in conversation with musicians Elsa Hewitt and Kirk Barley about their sonic responses to locations close to Tower Bridge.

As we move into the evening on the Summer Solstice, the Make Music Day party keeps going. In the evening livestream we will be bringing you a range of sounds including a showcase of British Black music and traditional music from across the globe.

A magazine style show featuring segments from across the UK presented by Making Music.
8:00pm / British Black Music Selection
Kwaku BBM provides a quick-fire opportunity to hear a range of domestic black music, as we mark Make Music Day and British Black Music Month.
8:30pm / Syncopate – City Of Edinburgh Schools’ Digital Concert
Reel Youth Media and City Of Edinburgh Council’s Arts and Creative Learning team present a programme of performances and music making from across the city’s 23 high schools and 88 primary schools including highlights from Creative Scotland’s Youth Music Initiative project.
9:00pm / MixMash Studios
Broadcast of tracks produced in the MixMash studios challenge. Will include short video clips from some participating producers.
9:30pm / Hands Up for Trad International Showcase
Hands Up are working with the European Folk Music Network and Global Music Match to broadcast a mixture of acts from countries including Scotland, Wales, Spain, Belgium, France and more. We want to show the richness of our global traditions live on a global stage.
