“Katie is a professional and versatile vocalist and songwriter with multitudes of performing experience whether as a soloist or as part of a band. She also plays piano, some guitar, drums, percussion and ukulele. She is also learning bass and works closely with a loop pedal. She has been part of several bands including previous college bands, her High School Senior Wind, Jazz and Brass band of which she played trumpet but also had the opportunity to sing as a soloist and with the Jazz Band. She has performed as a soloist, in bands and in choirs, in many concerts, solo gigs, college gigs, care homes, primary schools/toddler groups, events and venues including George Square, the Old Fruitmarket and for Lord Sebastian Coe at a sports event.
She is completely versatile in what genres she can sing and can adapt to any given genre and to give a clearer insight, she is able to sing genres such as; Jazz, Pop, Heavy Rock, Metal, Musical Theatre, Blues, Motown, Singer Songwriter, Folk, Soul, Classical, Contemporary Christian Music, Scat including Jazz Standard etc! Vocally wise, she has learned many breathing/vocal techniques and has gained a deeper knowledge and understanding of the voice and how it works. She has also learned and improved on how to improvise and scat using different scales and sight-read using scales with Solfege. She has had a year’s training in Musical Theatre including Estill training and has been in musicals and pantos! She has even led her own Youth Worship Band as well as performing in a Church Worship Band!
She has gained a multitude of new skills and knowledge over the past two years in Music Theory, Music Business, Music History, Song Writing, Performance, Composition, Entrepreneurship, working with Logic Pro X and has gained more insight into genres and have built up a wide, versatile and lengthy repertoire. She has had training in mainly classical piano but has begun to branch out into other genres/songs by taking the chord structure of a song and improvising with the melody using the chords for her own take on a song. She can sight read very well and can learn pieces quickly if needs be. She can also accompany herself on the piano and guitar when singing. She can harmonise very well and has a good ear for harmonising and improvising with scales/keys etc and when singing with other vocalists. She also writes her own material and demos her own songs, has he own gear and has been part of several recording/session/online collaborative projects involving other collaborators including having recorded vox for library music and two ads.
She has performed at a wedding and performing at another this year with the hopes of booking more and has experience of teaching students of all ages and levels of experience. Katie has taught at Gymboree Play and Music as an Early Years Development teacher using music and imaginative play. She has also volunteered at the Shaw Trust in Edinburgh, delivering song writing workshops as part of their well-being programme. As well as this, she’s involved with a few projects, one being her originals project, writing, recording and collaborating with other musicians on her originals with the view to releasing an E.P and gigging in the future as well as writing lyrics and recording vox for two other recording collaborations.
She is also part of a recently formed melodic rock band, working on originals, with the view to gigging later on in the year and releasing music. She has also just been given the opportunity to be taken on as a vocal and piano tutor for CultureNL. She is currently working on developing her music this year with the view to releasing a solo E.P towards the middle/end of the year and gigging as a result. She is also going to be recording a showreel in order to book more solo weddings. On top of this, she is starting up a new business venture with friend and business partner, Lauren Glancy, entitled Find the Note-group adult vocal coaching classes which will encompass vocal theory/technique, stagecraft/stage presence, performance anxiety, songwriting, vocal health and more. She has been involved in a few more recording collaborations so far and has organised a gig for SAMH in June.
