Sumei was awarded a choristership at Salisbury Cathedral under the direction of David Halls at the age of 7, and in her final year was appointed Precentor’s Chorister. She is currently studying at Bryanston School, where she secured a music scholarship in 2014. After gaining three distinctions at Grade 8, she holds ARSM Diplomas in singing and flute, both with Distinction, and she is currently working towards her diploma in piano.
Following her participation on the Eton Choral Course in 2017, Sumei was invited to join the Rodolfus Choir under Ralph Allwood MBE with whom she sings regularly, and has worked with conductors including Sir Mark Elder, Andrew Nethsingha, and Stephen Cleobury. She has performed at many venues including Birmingham Symphony Hall, Westminster Abbey, King’s College Chapel Cambridge, and St. John Smith Square, both in choirs and as a soloist. She has also participated on choral tours to France and New York, a chamber music tour to Cornwall, and featured on Katherine Jenkins’s album ‘Guiding Light’ with the Rodolfus Choir.
Sumei’s solo career includes Handel’s ‘Messiah’, Vivaldi’s ‘Gloria’, Mozart’s ‘Vesperae Solennes de Confessore’, and Emerson’s ‘A Symphonic Prayer’ and ‘Pie Jesu’ with Bryanston Choral Society, Pergolesi’s ‘Salve Regina’ with Dr Simon Jones and members of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Ešenvalds’s ‘O Salutaris Hostia’ in Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Square, Mozart’s ‘Laudate Dominum’ in The Old Royal Naval College Chapel, Greenwich, Delibes’s ‘Flower Duet’ in the Bournemouth Pavilion, Mendelssohn’s ‘Hear my prayer’ in Winchester Cathedral, Vivaldi’s ‘Nulla in mundo pax sincera’ in Christchurch Priory, and Naylor’s ‘Vox Dicentis’ on the BBC Radio 3 Choral Evensong Programme with the Eton Choral Course. In 2018, she was invited to give a solo recital as part of the Youth in Music programme in the Southern Cathedrals Festival, held in Salisbury. She has also participated in masterclasses with The King’s Singers, Voces8, The Swingle Singers, Kathryn Stott, Artur Pizarro, David Hill, and Julie Kennard.
Sumei is privelidged to be the Bournemouth Junior Singer of the Year 2018, and Virtuoso Award winner in the New Talent British International Youth Music Competition 2018.
