It might not be something you’ve heard of before, but Make Music Day isn’t new. It’s actually been around for over 30 years. Make Music Day started out as a small music festival in Paris in 1982 but has grown into a huge international event of music, now marked in over 120 countries. It is always held on 21 June each year, the summer solstice day.
It doesn’t matter if your contribution to Make Music Day is big or small – anything goes, as long as it is free, musical and fun! If you don’t want to perform, we will also need volunteers on the day itself to help us co-ordinate events that are happening up and down the country.
An event can be anything: concerts, open rehearsals, jam sessions, pop up events, indoor and outdoor gigs, taster sessions. It can be in your school, college, local park, workplace…or wherever you want to perform. Help us to bring music to the whole of the UK this summer solstice.
