Performances start at 10am and will be staged on the ground floor throughout the day until 4pm. Given the open-plan nature of the ground floor, tickets are not required, but space might be limited at certain times.
The Solace Choir will begin proceedings at 10:00. They’ll be performing several songs including the premier of a song they have composed and written themselves.
Next, from 11:00 we welcome students from Glasgow schools showcasing the fabulous work being done with pupils in the city. Hyndland Secondary will be treating us to performances from their Woodwind Ensemble, Clarinet Ensemble and Recorder Consort. Shawlands Academy will treat us to a performance from their String Quartet.
The 13:00 lunchtime performance will come from the Sitare Singing Group. Glasgow Sitare is a community singing group for those who identify as South Asian. The main aim of the group is to bring this community together to explore their identities through singing.
From 14:00 students in S1 and then S4 from the Glasgow Gaelic School will perform traditional Gaelic songs for us.
Then, to send us off in style at 15:00, the Tinderbox Orchestra bring together rappers and singers with heavy brass, strings, woodwind and a thundering backline. Tinderbox have transformed preconceptions of what an orchestra can be. They are touring their 5-star show and 20-piece band to libraries across the UK & Ireland to spread the We Make Music Instrument Libraries initiative – a national campaign to get musical instruments into public libraries, so people can borrow them for free, just like taking out a book.
