Make Music Day near you – Scotland, The North and The Midlands! (1/3)

Make Music Day is this Wednesday! If you want to celebrate in the UK and you are not already taking part in an event, use our interactive listings map to find events near you. We have all sorts of FREE concerts and performances going on in towns and cities throughout the country.

In this post we’ve picked out some of the highlights in Scotland, Northern England and The Midlands.

SCOTLAND

Aberdeen: Head over to Marischal College Quadrangle to hear a lunchtime performance by the Aberdeen City Council choir, including a singalong for all.

Edinburgh: At the Grassmarket you can catch InChorus choir performing at lunchtime, and in the evening rush hour join the Come and Sing event led by Stockbridge Colonies Choir and Jennifer Sterling, organised by Making Music Scotland.

Crieff: In James Square, Strathearn Singers Ladies Choral are performing some favourite songs in the afternoon.

Also look out for open rehearsals by Cadenza choir in Edinburgh and Lanarkshire Guitar and Mandolin Association near Glasgow.

NORTHERN ENGLAND

Leeds: In the Leeds Performing Arts Library a number of local performers including Stephandhersax and Bernie Haynes are appearing throughout the day

York: Make your way over to St Helen’s Square where the CanSing! Choir are performing at lunchtime, and various other acts appear throughout the afternoon

Nelson (Lancs): In Victoria ParkOdall UK will play some modern hits in the early evening

Also look out for A Guitar & Ukulele Music Celebration at Nunthorpe Academy in Middlesbrough, 0pen rehearsals in York (Cobweb Orchestra), Alderley Edge (Alderley Edge Orchestra) and Liverpool (Mersey Harmony)

MIDLANDS

Stourbridge: Several live bands perform in the bandstand at Mary Stevens Park

Retford: Acts throughout the day in the Market Square, including classical, folk and acoustic ensembles

Nottingham: Musical entertainment for all ages and tastes at NPALS (Radford-Lenton Library) between 2-9pm

Also look out for Choral evensong at Lichfield Cathedral, open rehearsals by the Got2Sing Choirs and Walsall College’s Party in the Park at Walsall Arboretum
