Make Music Day 2019 website launched!

Our website is now fully live and accepting contributions for events, performers and venues

Make Music Day is the biggest grassroots music festival in the world and we want you to be part of it. It takes place every year on 21 June, the summer solstice, in 120 countries. Last year around 500 free performances took place up and down the UK, from the Isle of Lewis to the Isle of Wight in all kinds of locations including train stations, shopping centres, pubs, libraries, music shops, hospitals, schools, parks and hilltops involving over 100,000 people.

Check out this video for last year’s highlights:

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

This 21 June, we want Make Music Day to be bigger and better than ever. We need your help to make that happen! Make Music Day is about getting music out into the streets, villages and city centres and bringing music to more and new people. All events are freely accessible to the public.

There are three key ways to get involved:

Organise an event – if you’d like to organise your own event, whether it be in a venue you use regularly, or in a new space such as your local town square, shopping centre or pub, you can register it on the website. Events can range from concerts and gigs to flashmobs and pop-ups to open rehearsals and participatory workshops.

Sign up as a musician – maybe you’re a band, singer or choir who would like to take part but have nowhere to perform. Add a performer profile to our website and local venues can get in touch, or look into venues in your locality and contact them directly.

Sign up as a venue – if you’d like to host an event in a space that you own or manage, you can add a venue profile to our website then search for musicians in your area who are looking for somewhere to perform.

TOOLS AND RESOURCES

There’s a wealth of information and resources on our website to help get you started:

Toolkits – download our event planning toolkit to help with all the essentials from licencing to promoting your event. There’s also toolkits about staging flashmobs to streaming your performance online and case studies from previous successful events.

Musical stuff – get involved in one of this year’s musical themes (themes include rural music, international collaborations, music in libraries, electronic music and digital) or download one of the many FREE arrangements of the Make Music Day anthem, Bring me Sunshine.

Marketing support– once your event is set up, we support you in promoting your event to the general public with branding and marketing templates and more. All events will also be promoted through our PR and media campaign, social media, website and our own mailing lists and contacts.
